Divergence… this one is not an “Original Thought” à propos mankind’s biggest problems. It’s about the “aliens”.

Worm-holes, theoretically possible ultra-dimensional “tunnels”, connecting positions in our three-space (or instants, if there are extra dimensions of time) are imagined in many SF writings, exceptionally in Carl Sagan’s Contact.

Perhaps “aliens” are local, long-lost cousins of ours, based under the continental shelves, but though many suggest they have come from distant, perhaps far-distant, places (or times), the debunkers presume that distance and the (present?) cosmic speed limit of 186,282 miles-per-second, make this impossible.

But either, or other, way, suppose that loosely packed, intersecting our three-space, there are myriad Einstein-Rosen Bridges, “portals” if you please, tunneling to some near, some distant, some far distant, and some very far distant, spatial (or temporal) locales.

The “alien” technology would be a revealer-mapper-selector which allowed the pilot (or remote operator) to choose one and re-appear at the other end of the tunnel. General Relativity considerations suggest such bridges are unstable; however, they need not endure for more than a moment.

An outside observer, watching a craft blinking in and out of very short tunnels, imagines that laws of physics are being violated – by momentum changes: quick accelerations and violent direction shifts.Maybe so, and maybe not. Then, when “they” are through, hopping about some secret ordinance or air base and “disappear”, they’ve simply traveled through a longer out-of-radar-range tunnel, or maybe back to Arcturus or the next galaxy over (or to “year 2525, if man is still alive”).
